Exciting news: Career North Ltd has secured funding from the Careers & Enterprise Company to deliver The F.A.M.E (Focused and Achieving More from Education) Programme in 5 local schools from September 2019.
Year 7 pupils have been enjoying the opportunity to see a Careers Adviser earlier than they might have done in the past! The Year 7 FAME (Focused and Achieving More from Education!) Programme funded to boost personalised guidance for young people by The Careers and Enterprise Company is proving to be popular with pupils.

The F.A.M.E Programme
The F.A.M.E programme will provide a wide range of enhanced careers guidance activities to all pupils in Year 7 and will also provide personal guidance through ‘Career Conversations’ (coaching model) to all pupils across the school who have special educational needs and those who are looked after. Parents/carers are always welcome to attend their child’s Career Conversation.
The F.A.M.E programme will provide group guidance to all pupils in Year 7, pupils will self action plan and request follow up personal guidance as necessary. Career North will contribute to emerging practice through early intervention and improving triage via Pupil & Tutor Career Champions who will be the first line of Careers support @ KS3. Group guidance (using coaching strategies/techniques) which facilitates self action planning, will ensure all pupils with SEN, children who are looked after and those at risk of disengaging will be better prepared to receive personal guidance and their subsequent feedback will ensure guidance is more timely and tailored for their particular needs. This bespoke approach will boost the effectiveness and impact of the Careers Conversation (guidance interview).
Careers, teaching staff and pupils will be trained and supported to undertake Career Champion roles to facilitate earlier integration of careers within the curriculum and more robust referral processes. Staff and pupils will be provided with a wide range of resources including ‘CEIAG in a box’ to support the delivery of the F.A.M.E programme.

It was great news to hear that Career North has successfully tendered funding to build capacity in careers guidance through their FAME programme. We place great importance on providing all of our pupils with access to information about the full range of opportunities available to them at the end of Year 11 and the high quality personal guidance they receive enables them to make sense of it. Starting earlier at Key Stage 3 will increase the impact and reach of careers guidance and we are looking forward to the programme commencing with our new Year 7 pupils in September.
